Changi Beach Park

For my brother's last day here we hemmed and hawed over where we should go. We'd done so many hawker centres, historical landmarks and shop house lined streets in the last two weeks... not to mention parks and gardens. The beach seemed like a good break in that and a more relaxing one at that. We took the MRT from Buona Vista station to Pasir Ris way up in the North East corner of Singapore. This part of the trip took about 45 minutes. Then we hailed a cab to the Changi Village which is a little collection of HDBs and hakwer centres right in the middle of the park.

Fishing boats were coming and going from this busy little harbour. Locals looked astonished to see us there. This area seems like it's traditionally a Malay community though I'll have to look that up to see what the history is. Most women were wearing hijabs and the food in the hawker centre was more Muslim oriented then we see in central Singapore. We crossed a bridge to the spit of land where there's a little stretch of sandy beach.

It was nice to just sit and read. We went for a swim too though the water is quite murky from all the currents and the boats off shore. The sand is littered with garbage both washed up on shore and left by careless park goers. The other interesting feature of this beach is it's location relative to the airport. It pretty much lines up with the in-coming flight path so you get an unobstructed view of each plane coming into the airport.  It's not quiet but it's a perfect place to bring a plane geek. The military planes also pass over at regular intervals.

  1. For your next visit ... take the train from BV MRT to Tanah Merah MRT then hop on the bus (BUS 9) takes you direct to Changi Beach Park.

Or even BUS 89 from Pasir Ris (at the Town Park) to Changi Beach Park.

If you like bike riding you can also go from Changi Village right around to the East Coast Park .... many Expats are at Changi Village over the weekend and at night for dinner!

also if you enjoy bike riding, take a bum boat from Changi Beach Ferry Terminal to Pulau Ubin ... hire a bike for the day only $8.00 and they have superb seafood over there too.

We have done the walk from Changi Ferry Terminal (near the village) right around to Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal .... quite a walk, but easier on the bike!!
