The expat cat adventures

Poor Kopi-o is dreaming away beside my keyboard and little does he know we are planning to take a trip abroad and his little world will be very different for a few weeks. I looked at every possible option for what to do with him while we are away but to be honest none of them really work. Even with someone coming in twice a day to feed him that means he's still got 22 solitary hours a day to miss his family. It's hardly fair. My mother suggested we try to have someone house sit or have him stay with another family while we are gone (and I'm perfectly prepared to pay room and board.) So far no dice so I'm appealing to our expat readers on our blog. Would you like to take care of this little furball for a few weeks? Comment on this post w your email address (don't worry I won't publish comments w email addresses in them) and I'll send along the dates and details to see if it's a good fit.

Success! Kopi-o has a homestay set up with a very keen foster cat mommy.

  1. The keybord is a very interesting place to sit on... It can almost offer a real massage I think ...hope for the best for your little cat :)

  2. Hi Stacy, sorry that I can't help, but I will offer you this piece of advice as a long-time Cat-mother; get your little guy used to a cattery now when he is young and adaptable, as you never know when you might need it again. If you go home / relocate again at some stage and you take him along, he may need to be boarded at each end and things will be a little less stressful if you have done this in small chunks before - say 1-2 nights a couple of times. Get into this routine and you and he will feel more comfortable when you jet off for the odd weekend. A helper / housesitter is ideal, but not always practical. Get some referrals of places in Singapore (I can tell you at least one NOT to try) and think of it like 'summer camp'. Singapore (soon-to-be Hong Kong) Sarah

  3. Thanks for commenting. Our little guy is all set for this trip now - phew!

@Sarah. I have thought a bit about how things will be for him if we keep moving and he has to do a quarantine sometime. It's a tough thing to do with him but I now see there might be some value in him doing a few short stints somewhere. I should start looking into some options for shorter weekend trips away as we do those a lot.

@Amanda Thanks! He does love keyboards. They are the massage chairs of cats apparently. :)
